Where Does GitKraken Store Profiles and Config?
GitKraken keeps logins, profiles, and settings in a .gitkraken folder in Roaming AppData or your home directory.
Last updated
GitKraken stores account state outside repos. Logins, profiles, repo caches, and the config JSON all sit in a hidden .gitkraken folder. Repos themselves stay where you cloned them. That split is why reinstalling the app keeps code but drops sessions.
The app binary lives apart in Local AppData on Windows. License files get checked in several spots including ProgramData and beside the exe. To start truly fresh (or switch accounts without a logout button), close the app and clear the .gitkraken tree.
Where GitKraken stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\.gitkraken
Config JSON plus profiles and repo cache inside. App binary in %LOCALAPPDATA%\gitkraken. License search also covers C:\ProgramData\GitKraken. Close the app before editing config by hand.
~/.gitkraken
Same interior as Windows. License search adds /usr/local/share/gitkraken and /usr/share/gitkraken. Delete or move the folder to reset auth and start clean.
~/.gitkraken
Deb, rpm, and tar builds share this path. Global git settings it respects still come from ~/.gitconfig unless your setup uses XDG paths.
Frequently asked questions
How do I sign out of GitKraken without a button?
Close the app, then empty the registration object in the config file or delete the .gitkraken folder. On relaunch it asks for login again. Back up the folder first if you keep profiles.
Where is the GitKraken app installed on Windows?
Under %LOCALAPPDATA%\gitkraken in versioned app folders, not Program Files. Data stays in Roaming .gitkraken. Many users confuse the two when hunting for settings.
