Where Does Global Mapper Store Settings and Data?
Where Global Mapper keeps licenses, custom datums and workspaces on Windows, and how to move settings.
Last updated
Global Mapper spreads state across a few Windows trees. Licenses sit under ProgramData with the version in the folder name. Custom datums, source lists and styles sit in the user data folder shown under Help About.
Workspaces themselves are user chosen files with automatic backups beside them. The reliable move for migrations is the built in export command rather than hand copying versioned folders. It packs every piece without path surgery. Digitizer styles and projection lists travel with the export, which hand copying often misses.

Versioned tree with the license file plus custom datums, source lists and styles. The version token changes per release. Use Help Export User Settings for moves instead of copying by hand.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move Global Mapper settings to a new PC?
Open Help, then Export User Settings on the old machine and Import on the new one. That carries styles, templates and online sources in one move. For datums alone, copy custom_datums.txt from the Help About folder.
Where is the Global Mapper user data folder?
Open Tools, Configuration, Advanced, then Folders, and read the User Data path. Styles, templates and source lists live there. The version number in the ProgramData tree changes per release, so this dialog beats memorizing paths.
