Where Are God of War (2018) Save Files Located?

The 2018 PC port keeps saves in the Saved Games folder under your profile, one subfolder per user account.

Last updated

Santa Monica's PC port follows the Saved Games convention rather than Documents or AppData. Each Windows account gets its own hashed subfolder inside the God of War directory.

The official support page gives this path directly, which is fortunate because the permissions error is common. When Documents or profile folders redirect to missing drives, the game cannot create its folder and refuses to start. The fix is about the folder existing, not about the game itself.

Where God of War stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\God of War

Type shell:savedgames into the Run dialog to jump there. Your saves sit in the hashed subfolder matching your account.

Frequently asked questions

The game reports a permissions error on launch. Why?

The game resolves the Saved Games folder strictly and fails when folder redirection points somewhere odd. Confirm shell:savedgames opens a real writable folder, then launch once as administrator so the game can create its subfolder.

Do New Game Plus saves go elsewhere?

Yes. New Game Plus writes into the same account subfolder as the finished run. Back up the folder before starting over if you want the original ending state preserved.
