Where Is the greetd Config File?
greetd configures from /etc/greetd/config.toml, naming the greeter and default session per terminal.
Last updated
greetd reads one TOML file at /etc/greetd/config.toml. The terminal section picks which VT it manages, and the default session names the greeter command to run. Agreety ships as the minimal fallback.
Swapping in tuigreet or wlgreet means changing one command string. Session files for window managers live separately under /usr/share/wayland-sessions. Logs flow to the journal under the greetd service.
Where greetd stores this, by platform
/etc/greetd/config.toml
Single TOML file for terminal, greeter command, and initial session. Restart the greetd service after edits. Session desktops stay in wayland-sessions.
Frequently asked questions
How do I switch greetd to tuigreet?
Set the default session command to tuigreet with your session directories. Install tuigreet first or login fails to a black screen. Keep agreety as fallback while testing.
Where does greetd log errors?
In the system journal for the greetd service unit. Greeter output lands there too. Read it over SSH when the local screen shows nothing.
