Where Are GTA III Save Files Located?
GTA III keeps GTA3sf slots in a User Files folder the old game engine sometimes cannot create itself.
Last updated
GTA III stores saves as GTA3sf1.b through GTA3sf8.b in Documents\GTA3 User Files, a layout Rockstar's support page still documents. Settings share the folder, so one copy preserves everything.
The missing-folder failure is the classic. The old binary cannot create User Files under current permissions, and OneDrive locks produce the identical symptom. Make the folder manually, exclude it from sync, and the save menu starts working. Like its siblings, the game reads whatever slots it finds on boot.
Where GTA III stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\GTA3 User Files
Eight slots GTA3sf1-8.b plus settings in one folder. Create it manually when saving fails; OneDrive locks cause the same error. Any PC save loads in any PC build.
Frequently asked questions
GTA III will not save at all. How do I fix it?
Create Documents\GTA3 User Files by hand and relaunch. The 2001 executable often cannot create it under modern permissions or OneDrive locks. Saving works immediately after the folder exists.
Do downloaded 100% saves work in the Steam version?
Yes. Any PC GTA3sf file loads in the Steam build regardless of origin. Drop it into User Files and it appears in the slot matching its number. Scan downloads first, as always.
