Where Does Guvcview Store Config on Linux?

Guvcview per-device config files with current and legacy paths on Linux.

Last updated

Guvcview keeps one config per video device. Current builds use a versioned folder with node-named files. Older eras used a home rc file or an unversioned folder.

A flag overrides the path for testing. Capture filename defaults live inside the config rather than as separate files. Match the file name to the device node in use.

Where Guvcview stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/guvcview2/video0

Per-device config matching video node names. Legacy rc file and unversioned folder on older builds. Capture defaults inside the config. Override path with the flag.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Guvcview?

Copy the guvcview2 folder with the app closed. Per-device files match video node names. Restoring means putting the folder back before opening the same camera.

Why did settings stop applying?

Config names track device nodes, so video0 settings apply to the first camera only. Swapped USB ports can remap nodes. Check which video node the wanted camera holds today.
