Where Does Gwget Store History and Settings?

Where Gwget keeps download history, settings and default folders on Linux for backup and migration.

Last updated

Gwget is a small GNOME downloader with a small footprint: one config folder for history, options and per download state, plus a download directory you choose. The layout follows XDG on modern builds.

Very old installs predate XDG and kept settings in GConf instead. Upgraded machines can hold both. Check Preferences for the live download path, and copy config with the app closed so history flushes.

History and options under XDG config. Pre XDG installs used GConf, so check both on old machines. Copy with the app closed for clean history.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Gwget history?

Close Gwget and copy its config folder plus the download directory. History and options travel in config, files in downloads. Older GConf era installs keep nothing here, so check both spots on upgraded machines.

Where does Gwget save files by default?

Open Edit Preferences and read the download folder. Defaults point under home Downloads, but the field always shows the live path. The tray icon menu opens the same dialog faster.
