Where Are Happy Wheels Save Files Located?

Happy Wheels keeps saves, settings and downloaded levels in one AppData folder, with no cloud sync to fall back on.

Last updated

Happy Wheels stores everything in one plain folder: %APPDATA%\HappyWheels. Progress and options sit directly in it, and a hwdata\downloads subfolder collects offline copies of levels you have played or downloaded. The name has no spaces, which makes it easy to miss when browsing AppData by title.

Two things make this folder matter more than your average browser-game port. First, the Steam release ships without Steam Cloud, so this tree is the only copy of your progress and downloaded levels. Second, years of community levels live in that downloads folder, and verifying files or reinstalling without a copy takes them with it.

Where Happy Wheels stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\HappyWheels

Progress and settings directly in the folder root; offline level downloads in the hwdata\downloads subfolder. Paste the path into the Run dialog. Copy the whole folder with the game closed.

Frequently asked questions

Where are Happy Wheels downloaded levels stored?

In %APPDATA%\HappyWheels\hwdata\downloads. Levels cache there as you play or download them. Copy the whole hwdata folder if you care about them, since a reinstall without a backup takes the cache with it.

Does Happy Wheels have Steam Cloud saves?

No cloud integration is listed for the Steam release. The AppData folder is your only copy, so make manual backups before reinstalls and don't let cleanup tools treat the folder as disposable cache.

How do I reset Happy Wheels progress?

Close the game and move the HappyWheels folder somewhere else, then launch again. The game recreates clean files. Keep the original copy until you are sure you want the fresh start, since there is no cloud copy to recover from.
