Where Does HedgeDoc Store Config and Uploads?

HedgeDoc collaborative notes config file and image upload folder paths for Node and Docker server use.

Last updated

HedgeDoc keeps settings in config.json at the install root. That file holds database, domain, and upload targets. Notes themselves live in Postgres, MySQL, or SQLite per that config.

Image uploads default under public/uploads in the install tree. S3 mode moves them to a bucket instead. Docker installs map the same pair through volumes. Back up config.json, the database dump, and uploads together. History tracks per note collaborators. Slide mode presents notes as decks directly. Permissions split free and private notes.

Where HedgeDoc stores this, by platform

Linux
/opt/hedgedoc/config.json

Database, domain, and upload settings for the Node app. Restrict read access since secrets live here. Keep with database dumps for moves.

Linux
/opt/hedgedoc/public/uploads

Image upload root when storage stays local. S3 installs skip this folder. Mount a volume here in Docker for persistence.
