Where Are Hello Neighbor Save Files Located?

Hello Neighbor SaveGames folder on Windows, the config beside it, and the Proton path plus the sequel folder trap.

Last updated

Hello Neighbor follows the standard Unreal layout: saves in Saved/SaveGames, config in Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor, both under a HelloNeighbor folder in LocalAppData. One backup of that parent covers progress and graphics settings together.

The sequel uses a HelloNeighbor2 folder, so files from the two games never mix even though the layout matches. Linux runs the Steam build through Proton under compatdata for AppID 521890. Steam Cloud covers the desktop saves.

Where Hello Neighbor stores this, by platform

Windows
%localappdata%\HelloNeighbor\Saved\SaveGames

Config sits beside saves in Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor. Hello Neighbor 2 uses a separate HelloNeighbor2 folder, so back up each game on its own.

Linux
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/521890/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/HelloNeighbor/Saved/SaveGames

Proton path for AppID 521890. Search for compatdata/521890 if your Steam library moved. Steam Cloud still applies on top of these local files.

Frequently asked questions

Do Hello Neighbor 1 and 2 share saves?

No. The first game uses HelloNeighbor and the sequel uses HelloNeighbor2, with no importer between them. Copying files across folders will not transfer progress.

How do I back up Hello Neighbor progress?

Close the game and copy the whole HelloNeighbor folder with a date in the name. Restoring means replacing that folder with cloud sync paused, then launching once to confirm the acts load.
