Where Does Hogwarts Legacy Store Mods?

Hogwarts Legacy mods go in a ~mods folder inside the install tree, not in AppData. Manual path plus Vortex notes and the save folder split.

Last updated

Hogwarts Legacy splits modding across two places, which confuses first timers. Mod pak files (.pak with matching .ucas and .utoc) go inside the game install, in Phoenix\Content\Paks\~mods. Saves and Engine.ini live separately in AppData.

Manual installs are drag and drop once the folder exists. Manager users should know Vortex once deployed to the wrong folder by default, so check where your manager points before assuming a mod is broken. Patch season means mod purgatory, so keep a known good set of pak files aside before each update.

Where Hogwarts Legacy stores this, by platform

Windows
<SteamLibrary>\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\~mods

Drop the .pak, .ucas and .utoc files here together. Saves sit elsewhere in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\SaveGames, so this folder holds mods only.

Linux
<SteamLibrary>/steamapps/compatdata/990080/pfx/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Hogwarts Legacy/Phoenix/Content/Paks/~mods

Same install relative layout inside the Proton prefix for app ID 990080. Start from your real library path if Steam lives outside ~/.local/share/Steam.

Frequently asked questions

What if there is no ~mods folder?

Create it yourself with exactly that spelling, including the tilde: Phoenix\Content\Paks\~mods. The game only scans that folder, and a missing tilde is the most common reason a mod silently does nothing.

Are saves in the same place as mods?

Yes. Saves and Engine.ini live in AppData Local while mod pak files live in the install folder. Backing up one does not back up the other, so copy both before a big update.
