Where Does the HP Smart App Save Scans?

Where the HP Smart app puts scans on Windows and Android, and why the save dialog choice matters each time.

Last updated

HP Smart behaves like a store app with a save dialog, not a fixed dump folder. On Windows each scan ends with a Save step where you confirm the name, type, and folder. The choice sticks, so the next scan returns to the same place. First time users often find files in Documents or in a fresh HP Smart folder inside OneDrive.

On Android the app writes scans to internal storage under an hpscan folder. That location is awkward to change from inside the app, so the practical move is Share after scanning and pick your file manager. The Windows store package also keeps settings under its own Packages folder, but your documents are what matter for backup.

Where HP Smart stores this, by platform

Windows
%userprofile%\Documents (chosen in Save dialog)

Scans save where the Save dialog points, often Documents or OneDrive\HP Smart. App settings live under %localappdata%\Packages\AD2F1837.HPPrinterControl*. Resetting the app there clears logins but not your saved scans.

Android
/sdcard/hpscan

Scanned docs default to the hpscan folder in internal storage. Exact path varies by phone maker and Android version, so search storage for hpscan if it is not at the top level.

Frequently asked questions

Where did my HP Smart scan go?

On Windows follow the Save dialog after each scan, since it defaults to the last used folder and may point at OneDrive. On Android look in internal storage under hpscan, or use Share to send the file to a manager app that lets you pick a folder.

Does HP Smart save to OneDrive automatically?

Yes. Sign in and check the Shortcuts section, since several actions target OneDrive or another linked cloud folder. The app often creates an HP Smart folder there on first use. Change the destination in the shortcut before running a batch.
