Where Is the imv Config File?
Where the imv image viewer reads its config on Linux, and how keybindings work there.
Last updated
imv reads a single INI-style file at ~/.config/imv/config: display options up top, key binds below. System samples ship under /usr/share/doc for reference.
The file is tiny by design. Binds use plain key names without modifiers syntax fuss. Wayland and X11 builds share the same path, so one config follows you across compositors.
Where imv stores this, by platform
~/.config/imv/config
INI config with [options] and [binds]. Sample in /usr/share/doc/imv. Same path on X11 and Wayland builds.
Frequently asked questions
How do I configure imv?
Create ~/.config/imv/config with [options] and [binds] sections for theme and keys. imv reads it on every launch; no reload daemon exists. Copy the sample from /usr/share/doc/imv when unsure of key names.
Does imv keep a library database?
No. imv is viewer-only and never writes into your picture folders. Thumbnails and state stay in memory or cache. Back up just the one config file; there is nothing else to migrate.
