Where Is the wofi Config File?
Where wofi keeps its config and CSS style on Linux, and how it fits Sway and Hyprland setups.
Last updated
wofi is the Wayland app launcher most Sway and Hyprland guides reach for. It reads ~/.config/wofi/config for behavior plus style.css in the same folder for theming. System defaults sit under /etc/xdg/wofi when shipped.
The split mirrors Waybar: logic and looks travel as a pair. Back them up together. Mode flags (--show drun, run, dmenu) pick the behavior per keybinding, not per file, so one config serves several binds.
Where wofi stores this, by platform
~/.config/wofi/config
Behavior config plus style.css beside it. Launched per mode via --show flags from compositor keybindings. System defaults under /etc/xdg/wofi when present.
Frequently asked questions
How do I set up wofi as a launcher?
Create ~/.config/wofi/ with config and style.css inside, then bind $mod+d to wofi --show drun in your compositor config. Copy a community theme as a starting style; default looks plain but works immediately.
Is wofi config like rofi config?
Yes. Both read a config plus style.css from the same folder, so muscle memory transfers. Key names differ slightly, so do not symlink one config onto the other; keep two small files instead.
