Where Does Insular Store Work Profile Data on Android?
Insular work profile data paths on Android and why they need root or adb to browse.
Last updated
Insular implements the work profile as a secondary Android user. The first work profile is usually user 10. Each app then gets a private directory under that user ID.
None of this is visible in normal file browsers. Scoped storage and profile separation block direct access. Plan on adb or the in-app shuttle instead of typing a path on the phone.
Where Insular stores this, by platform
/data/user/[UserID]/com.oasisfeng.island.fdroid
Private per-app directory inside the work profile user. The 10 is the work profile user ID on most phones. Needs root or adb to browse. Shared files live under /storage/emulated/[UserID] in app scoped folders. Package is com.oasisfeng.island.fdroid.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move files in and out of the work profile?
Use the built-in File Shuttle picker or cross-profile Share to move files between Personal and Work sides. Direct path browsing needs root or adb. The system backup covers app data on Android 8 and later.
What package name does Insular use?
The package name is com.oasisfeng.island.fdroid. Insular is the open source fork of Island by a different maintainer. Searching for the old Island package misses the F-Droid install.
