Where Does Interstellar Store Accounts and Cache?

Interstellar accounts live on Lemmy and Mbin servers with feeds and drafts cached in app storage.

Last updated

Interstellar talks to Lemmy and Mbin servers, so accounts, subscriptions, and posts live on your home instance. The phone holds feeds cache, drafts, and downloaded images in app-private storage.

The cache is disposable. Reinstalling and logging back in restores the account completely, minus anything never posted. Save keeper images deliberately; cached copies evaporate with the app.

Where Interstellar stores this, by platform

Android
Instance account (subscriptions); app-private cache and drafts

Account and subscriptions sync from the home instance. The phone holds cache and drafts; log back in after reinstalling to restore everything.

iOS
Instance account (subscriptions); app-private cache and drafts

Same account-first design across supported networks. Cached media rebuilds with use, so clearing it is the safe first step when space runs low.

Frequently asked questions

Do I lose my subscriptions if I reinstall?

Subscriptions and posts return on login to the same server. Only unsent drafts and cache stay behind, so finish posting before wiping.
