Where Do iPhone Downloads Go?
Safari and app downloads on iPhone land in a Downloads folder inside the Files app, either on the phone or in iCloud.
Last updated
iPhone downloads collect in the Files app, not in Safari. Open Files, tap Browse, and look under Locations for either iCloud Drive or On My iPhone, each with its own Downloads folder inside.
Which one fills up depends on a Safari setting defaulting to iCloud Drive on recent iOS. Files in iCloud sync and count against iCloud storage, while On My iPhone files live only on the handset. Confusing the two is the usual reason a download seems missing.
Where iOS stores this, by platform
Files > Browse > iCloud Drive > Downloads
Safari defaults here on recent iOS. Change it in Settings > Safari > Downloads, where On My iPhone is the other option.
Frequently asked questions
How do I change where Safari saves?
Open Settings > Safari > Downloads and switch between iCloud Drive and On My iPhone. iCloud syncs to every device, On My iPhone stays local and survives without a network.
My download is not in the Downloads folder. Where else?
Check which location Safari uses, since the two Downloads folders look alike in search. Files downloaded before a switch stay in the old spot and never migrate on their own.
