Where Does Isar Store Database Files?
Isar databases live as isb files in the app's documents directory. Note the project is discontinued, though existing apps still run it.
Last updated
Isar was the fast Flutter embedded store before its author discontinued it in favor of a server product. Existing apps still carry isb files in their documents directories, one set per named database instance. If you inherited such an app, the files below are what you backup and migrate.
The discontinuation matters for planning but changes nothing about the bytes. Isar Inspector ente opened these files during development, and plain file copies remain the backup story. New work belongs on maintained alternatives, while legacy installs just need their isb files kept safe.
Where Isar stores this, by platform
/data/data/[package]/app_flutter
One isb set per database instance in app files. Copy everything with the app closed. New projects should pick a maintained database instead.
App Container/Documents
App container documents directory. Same isb file layout as Android. Pull from simulator builds for inspection.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up an Isar database?
Copy the isb files with the app closed. They hold collections plus indexes together, so partial copies open with missing data. Treat the documents folder contents as one set.
Should new projects still use Isar?
Plan a migration to a maintained store like ObjectBox, Realm, or SQLite based options. Isar still runs, but unpatched bugs and OS updates are now your problem permanently.
