Where Does Janus Store Config and Recordings?

Janus keeps per-plugin jcfg configs under its etc janus folder on Linux, with recordings in operator-chosen folders. No fixed log path exists.

Last updated

Janus configures through a family of jcfg files rather than one master. The core file names folder paths for plugins, transports, events and loggers, while each plugin and transport adds its own file beside it. Samples become live config through a make target.

Recordings and logs stay operator-defined throughout. Directories come from room or publish settings with protected system folders blocked by default. No official Docker image exists to quote volumes from, so community mappings vary and the config files remain the source of truth.

Where Janus stores this, by platform

Linux
/opt/janus/etc/janus/janus.jcfg

Core config naming every folder path plus logging, daemon and pid behavior. Per-plugin and transport jcfg files sit beside it. Common installs use the /opt prefix tree with README shorthand pointing at /etc.

Linux
/opt/janus/share

Operator-chosen recording area with mjr files and mapping companions. Protected folders block system trees by default. No verified fixed directory exists, so confirm rec_dir per room.

Frequently asked questions

Which Janus config files do I edit?

Edit janus.jcfg for core paths and logging plus one jcfg per plugin and transport beside it. Files generate from samples through the configs make target. CLI flags override config, plugins and folder paths per launch.

Where do Janus recordings save?

Set rec_dir per room or filename per publish, since no default directory is verified. The share tree under the install prefix is the intended recordable area, with system folders blocked by protected-folders defaults. Recordings land as mjr files with mapping companions.

Where are Janus logs?

They run through stdout by default with an optional file path in the core config. No fixed system log location is verified, so check the config first. Community Docker patterns map custom log paths that operators define themselves.
