Where Does Kaffeine Store Settings?

Kaffeine keeps settings in kaffeinerc under ~/.config, with recordings wherever its capture folder points.

Last updated

Kaffeine keeps channels and EPG data in a SQLite database under ~/.local/share/kaffeine, with preferences in the standard KDE config home. Query select name from Channels against sqlite.db to see stored channel names when mapping XMLTV listings.

Recordings are the other half and live wherever the capture folder points, not in the config. Check that path in Kaffeine's settings before a big recording run. DVB channel scans also persist in the config, so rescanning after migration is rarely needed.

Where Kaffeine stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.local/share/kaffeine/sqlite.db (+ ~/.config/kaffeine/)

Main settings file. Quit Kaffeine before copying or editing. Recordings go to the capture folder set in settings, and timeshift buffers live in the cache dir. Copy the rc file to migrate channels and prefs.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Kaffeine channels and settings?

Copy ~/.config/kaffeinerc with Kaffeine closed. That carries channels, device setup, and preferences. Recordings are separate files wherever the capture folder points, so back those up too.

Where do Kaffeine recordings go?

To the capture folder configured in settings, not next to the config file. Verify it before recording since a full or missing path fails silently. The rc file only remembers the path.
