Where Does LabPlot Store Projects and Settings?

LabPlot keeps settings in the platform config home while projects stay in .lml files wherever you save them.

Last updated

LabPlot projects are single .lml files you place yourself, so there is no project folder to hunt. Settings, templates and recent file lists live separately in the platform config home.

That split keeps backups simple. Version the project files like documents and ignore the config tree unless migrating machines. Example projects ship with the install for learning the ropes.

Where LabPlot stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/labplot2

Settings and templates. Projects are .lml files wherever you saved them. Copy the config folder to migrate preferences between machines.

Windows
%APPDATA%\labplot2

Same role on Windows. Project files remain fully portable documents independent of this folder.

macOS
~/Library/Preferences/labplot2

Mac preferences location with the same contents. Recent file lists here break when projects move, so reopen them once after migrating.

Frequently asked questions

where are my labplot projects saved

Wherever you saved them as .lml files. LabPlot has no default project vault, so check Documents or the last folder you used in the save dialog.

how do i migrate labplot to a new computer

Copy your .lml project files plus the config folder for your OS. Datasets linked by absolute path need relinking if drive layouts changed.
