Where Does Keplr Store Wallet Data on Desktop?
Keplr encrypts its Cosmos keys in the browser profile; the recovery phrase stays the only real backup.
Last updated
Keplr stores encrypted keys inside the browser profile under Local Extension Settings\dmkamcknogkgcdfhhbddcghachkejeap on Chrome. The layout matches every Chromium wallet: LevelDB files holding the vault, readable only with the local password. Always confirm the extension ID against the store listing, since IDs are the phishing defense.
The recovery phrase remains the supported backup, now joined by WalletConnect links to the mobile app for signing on the go. Copying profile folders can rescue a password-known setup, but Chainapsis holds nothing server-side. Lose both phrase and password and the funds stay put.
Where Keplr stores this, by platform
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Local Extension Settings\dmkamcknogkgcdfhhbddcghachkejeap
Keplr vault under its store ID; confirm the ID at chrome://extensions with Developer Mode before trusting any folder. Copy with the browser closed. Phrase beats files for every recovery.
~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default/Local Extension Settings/dmkamcknogkgcdfhhbddcghachkejeap
Same extension-ID folder on macOS. Firefox builds keep the same data in the Firefox profile storage format instead.
~/.config/google-chrome/Default/Local Extension Settings/dmkamcknogkgcdfhhbddcghachkejeap
Same extension-ID folder under the Chrome config root. Check chrome://version for the active profile path when several profiles exist.
Frequently asked questions
I lost my Keplr recovery phrase. Can support recover it?
Reinstall the extension and choose import with your 12 or 24-word phrase. Chainapsis cannot recover a lost phrase, and no disk file substitutes for it. Support will tell you the same.
How do I rescue a locked Keplr from an old disk?
Open the vault equivalent in a copy of the profile folder while offline, same as its Ethereum cousins. It only helps when the password is remembered; otherwise the phrase is the path.
