Where Are Kobo Books Stored on PC and Mac?
Kobo Desktop on Windows stores downloaded books in AppData Local under Kobo Desktop Edition kepub, with DRM free copies in My Digital Editions.
Last updated
Kobo splits downloads by format. Books opened in Kobo Desktop for PC land in a kepub cache under AppData Local. The filenames are identifiers, not titles, and Kobo DRM titles need the app to open.
Books fetched through Adobe Digital Editions land separately, in Documents under My Digital Editions. On Mac the desktop cache sits under Library Application Support instead. The Kobo Cloud always holds the library, so a missing local file usually means the title was removed from the device rather than deleted for good.
Where Kobo stores this, by platform
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Kobo\Kobo Desktop Edition\kepub
Files here use GUID names without extensions. This is the cache Calibre plugins read. Books with Kobo DRM only open through Kobo software.
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Digital Editions
Default ADE download folder for Kobo titles fetched with Adobe DRM. DRM free store downloads also land here as plain EPUB files.
~/Library/Application Support/Kobo/Kobo Desktop Edition/kepub
Mac desktop cache. Same GUID naming as Windows. Use Go to Folder in Finder since Library is hidden by default.
/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.kobobooks.android/files
App private storage for offline books. Manage downloads inside the Kobo Books app. The cloud library resyncs after reinstall.
Frequently asked questions
How do I import Kobo Desktop books into Calibre?
Look in the kepub folder below. Files have GUID style names with no extension. Calibre with the Obok plugin reads that folder directly and shows real titles.
Is the downloaded file the same as the store EPUB?
Yes. The kepub on disk is the Kobo formatted copy. The store download is usually a plain EPUB, and ADE fetched copies are Adobe DRM EPUBs instead.
Where are Kobo books on Android or an eReader?
Open the Kobo app storage from Android data or back up through the Kobo Cloud. Sideloaded books on an eReader sit in the reader memory when mounted over USB.
