Where Does Komoot Store Offline Maps and Tours?

Komoot keeps downloaded regions and tours in private app storage. Android and iOS management plus GPX sharing.

Last updated

Komoot stores downloaded regions and saved tours inside private app storage. You fetch them from the app: regions under Profile, Offline maps, tours from any planned route with the download toggle. Once stored, navigation works with no signal.

There is no routes folder to copy between phones. Region unlocks follow your Komoot account, while the map files themselves download per device. For moving a single tour elsewhere, export it as GPX and import that file into the other app. This is easier than any folder hunt.

Where Komoot stores this, by platform

Android
App-private storage (managed under Offline maps)

Package de.komoot.android. Regions follow the account, files download per device. Export single tours as GPX for sharing. Reinstalls need fresh region downloads under the same login.

iOS
App sandbox (managed under Offline maps)

Same account-tied model as Android. iOS storage pressure can evict large regions, so verify downloads before leaving Wi-Fi. GPX export from the tour page is the portable route.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up my Komoot tours?

You do not need files: tours sync to your Komoot account and return after reinstall. For use in another app, open the tour and export GPX. Region map files always download fresh per device under the same login.

Why is my downloaded region gone?

The app or the OS likely evicted it under storage pressure, or you signed out. Region purchases stay on the account, so download the region again from Offline maps. Check available space before fetching large areas.

Can I share a Komoot tour as a file?

Yes. Open the tour, share it, and choose the GPX option. That file imports into Garmin, Komoot on another account, and most hiking apps. Shared links work too, but GPX is the format that survives offline.
