Where Is the Lan Mouse Config File?

Lan Mouse reads client layout from $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/lan-mouse/config.toml, defaulting to ~/.config on Linux.

Last updated

Lan Mouse keeps one small TOML file: config.toml in a lan-mouse folder under the XDG config home. It lists neighboring machines by side plus port and release key, and the daemon loads it automatically at startup.

The file may not exist until you create it. Copy the example from the repo, adjust hostnames to match what each machine calls itself, and restart the user service. Wayland compositors (GNOME 46+, KDE 6.1+, wlroots) are the primary target.

Where Lan Mouse stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/lan-mouse/config.toml

Client hostnames, sides, port (default 4242) and release bind. Create the folder if absent. A systemd user unit (service/lan-mouse.service) autostarts the daemon.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I put my Lan Mouse client list?

Copy the example config.toml from the repo into ~/.config/lan-mouse/ and edit the hostnames and sides. The daemon parses it at startup to auto-load your clients.

Lan Mouse finds no clients on my network. Firewall?

Port 4242 UDP is the usual suspect (plus 24800 TCP if you also run Barrier or Input Leap nearby). Open it for the LAN interface and retest before touching the config.
