Where Does League of Legends Store Its Config?
Where League's game.cfg, input.ini and PersistedSettings.json live on Windows and Mac, and which of those three holds your keybinds.
Last updated
League's settings live next to the game, in the Config folder of the install directory, not in AppData. Three files matter: game.cfg for video, audio and interface options, input.ini for hotkeys and quick cast, and PersistedSettings.json, which the game rebuilds from the other two when it launches.
That last file is why hand edits disappear. Riot's own wiki says to close the game, delete PersistedSettings.json, edit game.cfg or input.ini, then relaunch. The install folder defaults to C:\Riot Games\League of Legends, but it can be anywhere you chose, and the Riot Client keeps a record of where.
Where League of Legends stores this, by platform
C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\Config\game.cfg
input.ini and PersistedSettings.json sit beside it. If you installed to another drive, right-click the League shortcut and pick Open file location to find the real folder, or open %ProgramData%\Riot Games\RiotClientInstalls.json, which records the path. The Riot Client's own settings are in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Riot Games\Riot Client, and none of that affects keybinds.
/Applications/League of Legends.app/Contents/LoL/Config/game.cfg
The Config folder is inside the app bundle, so in Finder right-click League of Legends.app, choose Show Package Contents, then open Contents, LoL, Config. An install in ~/Applications follows the same layout, and the Riot Client keeps its own files under ~/Library/Application Support/Riot Games/Riot Client.
Frequently asked questions
where are my league of legends keybinds
In input.ini, inside the Config folder of wherever League is installed, C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\Config by default. Quick cast choices are in the same file, while game.cfg holds video, audio and interface options.
league of legends settings keep resetting
PersistedSettings.json is usually the culprit, since the game rebuilds it from game.cfg and input.ini at launch and your JSON edits do not survive. Close everything, delete that file, edit the other two, then relaunch and check the settings stuck.
how do i find where league of legends is installed
Right-click the League shortcut and choose Open file location, then look for the Config folder nearby. If you land in the Riot Client instead, open %ProgramData%\Riot Games\RiotClientInstalls.json; its associated_client entries contain the real install path.
