Where Does Ledger Live Store Accounts and Settings?

Ledger Live keeps accounts and settings in app.json; the recovery phrase stays the only true backup.

Last updated

Ledger Live stores accounts, settings and caches in a file called app.json inside its user-data folder: %APPDATA%\Ledger Wallet on current Windows installs, ~/Library/Application Support/Ledger Wallet on macOS. Older installs used a Ledger Live folder name instead, so check both if app.json seems missing.

The app renamed itself from Ledger Live to Ledger Wallet, and the folder followed on fresh installs while upgrades sometimes keep the old name. Keys never touch this file; they stay on the hardware device. The phrase on paper restores everything, and app.json only restores convenience.

Where Ledger Live stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\Ledger Wallet

app.json with accounts, settings and caches. Older installs use a Ledger Live folder name instead. Or open it from Settings > Help > View user data on any OS.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Ledger Wallet

Same app.json, same rename history (older installs: Ledger Live). Use Settings > Help > View if Finder hides the Library folder.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Ledger Live to a new computer?

Copy app.json to the same folder on the new machine with Ledger Wallet closed, then open it. Accounts, names and settings reappear. Pair the hardware device to transact.

Is there a way to open the data folder from inside the app?

Yes. Settings > Help > View next to View user data opens the live folder on any OS, which beats memorizing platform paths. That button is also the fastest way to confirm which folder name your install uses.
