Where Does LICEcap Save Captures?

LICEcap saves screen GIF captures wherever you point the save dialog per recording. The app keeps no library; output files are the archive.

Last updated

LICEcap records screen regions straight to GIF files. Each session writes one output file to the location picked in the save dialog. No projects accumulate and no catalog exists.

That makes the output folder the whole story: choose it deliberately per take. Settings like FPS and title frames reset per session. Keep takes short; long captures bloat beyond sharing limits fast. Title frames brand captures fast. Mouse clicks highlight optionally. Repeat counts loop forever. Border padding frames neatly.

Where LICEcap stores this, by platform

Windows
%userprofile%\Documents\ (default save folder)

Output saves per recording to your chosen path; no library exists. Defaults follow the last folder. Keep takes short for sharing.

macOS
~/Documents/ (default save folder)

Same per-recording save model as Windows. Pick the folder in the dialog each take. Short loops share best.

Frequently asked questions

Where do LICEcap recordings save?

Position the capture frame, hit record, and pick the save path in the dialog that follows. Defaults point at the last folder used. Name captures by purpose; batch takes blur together.

How do I keep GIF sizes small?

Shrink the frame and lower FPS first, then shorten the take. GIF palettes balloon with gradients and motion. Short loops under ten seconds share best.
