Where Does LightBulb Store Settings?
LightBulb saves Settings.json in AppData Roaming LightBulb. Back up that file, and override the path with an env var.
Last updated
LightBulb keeps one JSON settings file in a Roaming AppData folder. Location, gamma curves, whitelists, and hotkeys all live there. Deleting it is the documented reset path, and copying it is the backup path.
Portable setups get an override. Recent releases read a LIGHTBULB_SETTINGS_PATH variable pointing at an alternate settings file. That suits synced folders or multi machine dotfile repos better than copying AppData around. Location settings drive the sunrise math. Set coordinates or auto detect once, then leave the file alone unless migrating machines.
Where LightBulb stores this, by platform
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\LightBulb\Settings.json
Main settings in JSON. Quit LightBulb before hand edits. Back up this file before reinstalls.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up LightBulb settings?
Copy Settings.json elsewhere with LightBulb quit. Restore it the same way. The maintainer docs describe exactly this file for resets.
How do I reset LightBulb to defaults?
Rename Settings.json and restart. Defaults regenerate. Set your location again after, since sunrise math needs it.
