Where Does LineageOS Store Updates and Backups?

LineageOS downloads OTA zips to /data/lineageos_updates and backs up apps with Seedvault like other custom ROMs.

Last updated

LineageOS keeps system updates in two places: downloaded OTA zips under /data/lineageos_updates with an updates.db tracking them, and the live system underneath. The Updater app (Settings, System, Updater) manages both.

App data backup rides on Seedvault with the same per-profile rules as other ROMs. Update through the built-in path so addon.d backup hooks run; manual recovery flashes skip them on modern A/B devices.

Frequently asked questions

How do I update LineageOS without losing GApps?

Use the built-in Updater or the push-update script so addon backups run; sideloading zips in recovery skips addon preservation on A/B devices.

Can I delete old LineageOS update zips?

Delete stale zips from /data/lineageos_updates (root/ADB) after successful boots. Keep the running build plus one fallback until the new one proves stable.
