Where Are Lisa: The Painful Save Files Located?
Where Lisa keeps saves in the original and Definitive builds on PC, and why the two formats never mix.
Last updated
Lisa ships in two incompatible builds under one store page. The 2014 original writes numbered rvdata2 files next to the game itself. The Definitive Edition writes dat savegames plus a settings file in the LocalLow tree under its own studio folder.
That split causes every failed transfer report: the files exist but the other build cannot read them. Painful and Joyful Definitive editions keep separate sibling folders. Proton prefixes mirror the LocalLow tree on Deck with no native Linux port. Match the build and edition to the backup before restoring anything by hand.
Where Lisa: The Painful stores this, by platform
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\LISA\Save1.rvdata2
Install folder saves for the 2014 original in rvdata2 format. Definitive builds instead use LocalLow Serenity Forge with dat files. The formats never cross over.
Frequently asked questions
Do original Lisa saves transfer to the Definitive Edition?
No. The 2014 build writes rvdata2 files in the install folder while the Definitive Edition writes dat files in LocalLow. Serenity Forge confirms the formats are incompatible. Finish each version where you started it.
Where are Definitive Edition settings stored?
Open the LocalLow Serenity Forge folder for your edition, Painful or Joyful. The UserSettings file beside the savegames holds options as plain data. Registry keys mirror some choices, but the dat file is the backup that matters.
