Where Are Mafia II Save Files Located?
Mafia II Definitive Edition saves to Documents/My Games, while the 2010 classic uses Local AppData instead. Both paths inside.
Last updated
Mafia II has two save homes depending on edition. The Definitive Edition writes to Documents/My Games/Mafia II Definitive Edition/Saves. The 2010 classic uses Local AppData under 2K Games/Mafia II/Saves, with a Feral-managed Mac variant on top.
Edition confusion causes most lost-save reports. Check which entry you own before following any guide, and keep backups per edition since the formats do not cross over.

%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Mafia II Definitive Edition\Saves
Definitive Edition saves. The 2010 classic instead uses %LOCALAPPDATA%\2K Games\Mafia II\Saves. Confirm edition first; formats do not transfer.

Proton prefix for app ID 1030830 (Definitive); classic uses 50130. The Documents tail inside mirrors Windows for the matching edition.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up Mafia II saves?
Copy the Saves folder for your edition with the game closed. Editions do not share paths, so confirm Definitive versus classic before restoring.
Can classic Mafia II saves move to Definitive Edition?
No. Definitive Edition and the 2010 classic keep separate trees with different formats. Replay or use same-edition backups instead.
