Where Does Listary Store Settings?

Listary settings file for v6 and v5 on Windows, and the copy paste migration between machines.

Last updated

Listary 6 keeps every setting in %APPDATA%\Listary\UserProfile\Settings\Preferences.json. The older v5 file lived one level up under UserData\Preferences.json, and v6 imports it directly from Options, General.

Migration is a file copy: exit Listary on the new machine, drop in your Preferences.json, restart. Portable builds instead keep a UserData folder beside Listary.exe, though the exact v6 portable layout shifts between builds. Version 6 needs 64 bit Windows 10 or 11.

Where Listary stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\Listary\UserProfile\Settings\Preferences.json

Version 6 settings (JSON). Version 5 used %APPDATA%\Listary\UserData\Preferences.json and imports via Options > General. Portable builds keep UserData beside the exe; layout may vary by build. Requires 64 bit Windows 10 or 11.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Listary to a new PC?

Exit Listary on the new machine, replace Preferences.json with your copy, and restart. Import v5 settings first through Options, General if you are upgrading across major versions.

Where did my Listary 5 settings go after upgrading?

They stay in UserData\Preferences.json until imported. Open Listary 6 Options, General, Listary 5 Settings, Import, and they convert into the v6 file.
