Where Does Logic Pro Store Its Sound Library?

Where Logic Pro keeps its relocatable Sound Library bundle, factory content and your own presets on Mac.

Last updated

Logic Pro packs its downloadable sounds into Logic Pro Library.bundle, sitting in ~/Music by default and movable anywhere via the Sound Library menu. Relocating it is the single biggest disk reclaim on music Macs, often approaching a hundred gigabytes.

User content lives apart in ~/Music/Audio Music Apps and never moves with the bundle, which confuses migrators twice: the bundle transfer looks complete while personal presets stay behind. Copy both, and GarageBand/MainStage users note the shared bundle both apps read.

Where Logic Pro stores this, by platform

macOS
~/Music/Logic Pro Library.bundle

Move it with Logic Pro > Sound Library > Relocate Sound Library, not Finder drags (though drag plus Locate works). Factory content: /Library/Application Support/Logic. Yours: ~/Music/Audio Music Apps.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move the Logic Sound Library to an external SSD?

Use Logic Pro > Sound Library > Relocate Sound Library and pick the drive. Apple moves the bundle and leaves an alias behind. Later downloads install straight to the new home. Keep the drive connected at launch or Logic asks to locate the missing library.

Where are my own sampler instruments and patches?

Yours live in ~/Music/Audio Music Apps (Sampler Instruments, Patches, Plug-in Settings) and are never touched by relocation. Factory content lives in /Library/Application Support/Logic. Back up Audio Music Apps to carry your sound between machines.
