Where Does Logos Bible Software Store Downloaded Books?

Logos keeps downloaded resources in ResourceManager\Resources under its data folder, with a random 8.3 folder in the middle: AppData\Local\Logos\Data on Windows, Logos4 Data on Mac.

Last updated

Logos downloads your whole library for offline use, and the files sit in a Resources folder buried a few levels deep. The odd part is a random 8.3 folder name in the middle of the path that differs on every install. Expect it instead of memorizing it.

On Windows the tree starts in AppData Local under Logos Data. On Mac it starts in Application Support under Logos4 Data, a name left over from older versions that never changed. Resource files plus the index can reach tens of gigabytes on large libraries, so this folder explains Logos disk usage almost entirely.

Where Logos Bible Software stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Logos\Data\<random>\ResourceManager\Resources

Replace the random segment with the single folder actually present on your machine. The path may differ if a custom location was chosen at install. Show hidden files to see AppData in Explorer.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data/<random>/ResourceManager/Resources

The Logos4 folder name is historical and current installs still use it. Use Finder Go to Folder since Library is hidden. Verbum users look for a Verbum folder in the same place.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move my Logos library to a new computer?

Copy the Resources folder to external media, install Logos on the new machine, then use the scan command with the copied path. Logos indexes the files into its own random folder. This beats re-downloading a large library over a slow connection.

Why is there a random folder name in the path?

The random folder name is normal and there is only one inside Data, so open it and keep going. Verbum installs use a Verbum folder in the same spot. The location could also differ if a custom path was picked during setup.
