Where Does Loupe Store Settings on Linux?

Loupe prefs via dconf and thumbnails cache on Linux, plus why there is no photo library.

Last updated

Loupe is a minimal GNOME viewer. It keeps no photo library. Images stay where they already are and open directly.

Options live in dconf under org.gnome.Loupe. Thumbnails cache in the shared thumbnail dir. Backing up means copying your pictures, not Loupe data.

Where Loupe stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.cache/thumbnails/

Shared thumbnail cache Loupe reads. Settings live in dconf at org.gnome.Loupe (edit with dconf Editor). No catalog exists, so missing photos means moved source files.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the Loupe library?

There is none. Loupe opens files in place from Pictures or any folder. The cache above only speeds previews. Copy the image folders themselves for backup.

How do I reset Loupe settings?

Run dconf reset -f /org/gnome/Loupe/ with Loupe closed. Thumbnails rebuild on next browse. Your images elsewhere are untouched.
