Where Are Machinarium Save Files Located?

Machinarium saves on Windows (Amanita folder plus Steam userdata) and legacy Flash paths on Linux.

Last updated

Modern Machinarium builds save in AppData under Amanita-Design.Machinarium, with Steam Cloud copies in userdata 40700 remote. The Definitive version replaced the old Flash engine.

Legacy Flash saves lived as machinarium.sol in Macromedia SharedObjects on every OS. Those only matter for the original release. Copy with the game closed and Cloud paused.

Where Machinarium stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\Amanita-Design.Machinarium\

Definitive saves here. Steam Cloud mirrors to <Steam-folder>\userdata\<user-id>\40700\remote\. Legacy Flash saves were machinarium.sol under %APPDATA%\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\.

Linux
~/.macromedia/Flash_Player/#SharedObjects/

Legacy Flash save location (machinarium.sol underneath, path varies by install dir). Definitive builds use Steam userdata 40700 remote plus Proton compatdata/40700. Check Cloud first on modern installs.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Machinarium?

Copy the Amanita-Design.Machinarium folder on Windows plus userdata 40700 remote for Steam. Legacy Flash players should also grab machinarium.sol. Keep Cloud paused until one clean launch.

Why do old Machinarium guides mention CCleaner?

Classic saves sat in Flash SharedObjects, which cleaners wipe. The Definitive version moved away from Flash, so modern saves survive cleaning. Check which build you own before following old threads.
