Where Does MacWhisper Store Transcripts and Models?

Where MacWhisper keeps models, transcripts database, media, prefs, and cache on macOS.

Last updated

MacWhisper keeps everything inside your user Library: models and the transcript database under Application Support, preferences as a plist, and regenerable data in Caches. Nothing lives at system level, so manual inspection is easy.

The App Store edition (Whisper Transcription) nests the same structure inside its sandbox container. Direct-download builds use the plain paths below. Check which edition you run before copying folders between machines.

Where MacWhisper stores this, by platform

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/MacWhisper

Models, internal database with transcripts and sessions, and managed media. App Store edition uses ~/Library/Containers/com.goodsnooze.MacWhisper/Data/Library/Application Support/MacWhisper instead.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move MacWhisper to a new Mac?

Copy ~/Library/Application Support/MacWhisper (models, database, media) plus the prefs plist to the same paths while the app is closed. App Store builds use a Containers path instead, so match the edition on both Macs.

How do I free disk space without losing transcripts?

Delete the Models subfolder inside Application Support to reclaim space; the app re-downloads on demand. Leave the Database folder alone unless you want transcripts gone too. Cache in ~/Library/Caches is always safe to clear.
