Where Are Ori and the Blind Forest Save Files Located?
Where Ori and the Blind Forest keeps saves on PC, and why the Definitive Edition uses a different folder than the original.
Last updated
Ori and the Blind Forest stores saves as numbered saveFile entries in LocalAppData. The catch is that the original release and the Definitive Edition use sibling folders with near identical names. Most installs today are the Definitive Edition.
Each slot keeps automatic backups beside the live file, plus settings and key bindings in the same folder. Back up the whole folder with the game closed. Turn off Steam Cloud before restoring older files by hand. Cloud sync treats the DE folder as canonical, so an unpaused restore gets overwritten within seconds.
Where Ori and the Blind Forest stores this, by platform
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Ori and the Blind Forest DE
Holds saveFile numbered slots plus automatic saveFile backups, settings.bin and key binding text files. The Microsoft Store build instead uses its Packages container under SystemAppData wgs.
Frequently asked questions
Which folder do I use, original or DE?
Most players own the Definitive Edition, so look in Ori and the Blind Forest DE first. The plain Ori and the Blind Forest folder belongs to the 2015 original. Check Steam library properties to confirm which edition you launched.
How do I restore an automatic backup save?
Copy the numbered saveFile backup with the highest suffix over the matching live slot, then relaunch with Steam Cloud off. Cloud sync restores the newer timestamp otherwise, so keep it off until the restored save loads once.
