Where Does Magnet Store Settings on Mac?

Magnet stores shortcuts and snap settings in ~/Library/Preferences/com.crowdcafe.windowmagnet.plist, editable only in app.

Last updated

Magnet keeps everything in one preferences plist: ~/Library/Preferences/com.crowdcafe.windowmagnet.plist. Shortcuts, drag-to-snap toggles and enabled layouts all land there.

There is nothing useful to do with the file directly. Magnet offers no text config, so treat the plist as backup material only. Change shortcuts in Preferences from the menu bar icon. If you run several Macs, the iCloud sync toggle in that same panel beats copying plists around.

Where Magnet stores this, by platform

macOS
~/Library/Preferences/com.crowdcafe.windowmagnet.plist

Back this file up for safety, but change settings through Magnet Preferences. The App Store build updates the plist itself, and hand edits get overwritten.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit Magnet shortcuts in a text file?

No. Magnet has no text config, so remap them in Magnet Preferences from the menu bar icon. The plist updates itself when you change a shortcut there.

Does Magnet sync settings between Macs?

Yes, Magnet can sync preferences through iCloud across Macs on the same Apple ID. Turn it on in Preferences and shortcut remaps travel with you instead of diverging per machine.
