Where Does Manyverse Store Feed and Identity?
Where Manyverse keeps its SSB feed, blobs and secret on each OS, and what to back up to keep identity.
Last updated
Manyverse keeps its Secure Scuttlebutt data in its own per OS folder rather than the shared SSB path older apps used. The feed log, blobs and the secret identity file all live under that root. Each platform follows its own app data convention.
That separation from Patchwork is deliberate since the database formats differ. The secret file is the identity: lose it and the feed is orphaned. Back up the whole folder with the app closed to carry history along with the keys. Invited friends resync missing messages after a folder restore.
Where Manyverse stores this, by platform
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\manyverse
Electron app data root with the feed log, blobs and secret inside. Copy the whole folder with the app closed. The secret alone preserves identity.
~/Library/Application Support/manyverse
Same feed, blobs and secret under Application Support. Quit the app before copying. Use in app backup for identity only moves.
~/.config/manyverse
Same feed, blobs and secret under XDG config. Sandboxed installs may relocate it, so check app permissions when absent.
/data/data/se.manyver/files/.ssb
Internal SSB root with the feed and secret. Needs root to browse. Use Settings backup for identity export instead of file copies.
Frequently asked questions
Can Manyverse reuse my Patchwork SSB folder?
No. Manyverse uses a newer database format in its own folder while Patchwork uses the legacy shared folder. Pointing one at the other corrupts the feed. Migrate by inviting the new install as a friend and letting gossip resync.
What do I back up to keep my Manyverse identity?
The secret file alone preserves your identity, while the full folder preserves identity plus history and blobs. Copy the whole data folder for your OS with the app closed for a full move. Friends resync missing messages after restore.
