Where Does Planetary Store Feeds and Identity?

Planetary keeps your SSB identity and feeds in its iOS container, with no server copy to fall back on.

Last updated

Planetary is peer to peer, which makes its local data irreplaceable. Your identity key and followed feeds exist only on the device; there is no server holding a spare copy.

That raises the stakes of every reinstall. iOS seals the data in the app container, so migration depends on device backups or the in app recovery flow. Losing both means starting a new identity from zero.

Where Planetary stores this, by platform

iOS
/var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/<guid>/Documents

Container path with a per install guid. Identity key and SSB database live here. Keep an encrypted device backup and note the recovery words separately.

Frequently asked questions

how do i move planetary to a new iphone

Restore from an encrypted device backup carrying the app container, or use the in app recovery with saved words. A fresh install without either creates a blank identity.

will deleting planetary delete my identity

Yes, permanently, unless a backup or recovery words exist. Peer to peer means nobody else holds your key. Confirm recovery works before deleting.
