Where Does Marmoset Toolbag Store Scenes and Autosaves?

Marmoset Toolbag scenes, library and autosaves on Windows and macOS, and the autosave setting to check first.

Last updated

Toolbag scenes are .tbscene files saved wherever you put them. There is no fixed projects folder. The Library panel offers a Scenes area for quick access copies, but the working file lives where you saved it.

Autosaves are the part with a real location. Set it under Edit > Preferences > Autosave. You can point it at a central folder with caps on count and size, or save relative to the scene. After a crash, Toolbag offers the last autosave on next launch.

Where Marmoset Toolbag stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Marmoset Toolbag\Autosaves

Open via Edit > Preferences > Autosave > Open Autosaves Folder. Timer, Max Saves and Max Autosave Folder Size all live in that panel. Use Clear there to wipe old backups.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Marmoset Toolbag/Autosaves

Same Preferences panel as Windows. If Save Relative to Scene is enabled, autosaves sit next to the .tbscene file and the size caps are ignored.

Frequently asked questions

How do I share a Toolbag scene with another PC?

Use File > Export for a scene bundle. That writes the .tbscene plus an Assets folder with relative paths. Plain Save keeps absolute links that break on another PC.

Where did my Toolbag autosave go?

Open Edit > Preferences > Autosave and press Open Autosaves Folder. If Save Relative to Scene is on, look beside the scene file instead. The central folder limits do not apply in that mode.
