Where Does Meshroom Store Projects and Cache?

Meshroom saves pipelines as .mg files wherever you place them, with AliceVision processing cache in a MeshroomCache folder beside the project.

Last updated

Meshroom splits work between a small .mg pipeline file and a large MeshroomCache folder of node outputs. The project file you save holds the graph; the cache holds every intermediate result. Reopening skips finished nodes only when both halves match.

Cache size surprises everyone once. Dense reconstructions fill tens of gigabytes beside a kilobyte project file. Treat the cache as disposable scratch for finished work and as gold for active tuning, and disk pressure stays manageable.

Where Meshroom stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Meshroom

.mg pipeline plus adjacent MeshroomCache of node outputs move together. Delete cache for finished work, keep it while iterating. Recompute fills it back.

Linux
~/Documents/Meshroom

Same project plus cache layout as Windows. Watch free space during dense runs since cache grows fastest there.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move a Meshroom project?

Copy the .mg file plus its MeshroomCache folder together, since nodes reference cache by relative paths. Moving the project file alone forces full recomputation. The cache dwarfs the project file, so plan disk accordingly.

Can I delete the MeshroomCache folder?

Delete the MeshroomCache folder contents for finished projects you will not tweak. The .mg pipeline definition stays tiny and re-runs from photos when needed. Keep cache only for active iterations.
