Where Does MeTube Save Downloads and Queue State?
Where MeTube writes downloads, queue state and presets in a Docker setup on Linux, and which variables move them.
Last updated
MeTube is a thin UI over yt-dlp with two stores: the downloads directory for finished files, and a state directory for queue, history, subscriptions and cookies. By default state is a hidden .metube folder inside downloads.
Environment variables can relocate either one, so the compose file wins over defaults. Check DOWNLOAD_DIR and STATE_DIR first. Temp files also land in downloads unless TEMP_DIR points elsewhere, which matters on small disks.
Where MeTube stores this, by platform
/path/to/downloads
Host folder mapped to container downloads. State defaults to a hidden .metube subfolder unless STATE_DIR overrides it. Stop the container before copying the queue.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up MeTube downloads and queue?
Copy the host downloads folder with the container stopped, including the hidden .metube state directory inside it. Files alone restore videos, state restores queue, history and subscriptions.
My MeTube files are not where guides say. Why?
Read DOWNLOAD_DIR, AUDIO_DOWNLOAD_DIR and STATE_DIR in your run command or compose file. Those variables decide the real locations. Defaults point inside downloads, custom values split them apart.
