Where Does Minigalaxy Install GOG Games?

Minigalaxy installs GOG games to ~/GOG Games by default, with its own config in ~/.config/minigalaxy and downloads cached under ~/.cache.

Last updated

Minigalaxy is a compact GOG client for Linux, and its folders reflect that focus. Games land in ~/GOG Games unless you pick otherwise. Its own settings live in a small config file under ~/.config. Download staging sits in the cache directory, with an option to keep installer files beside the games.

The install folder is per-game subdirectories, each able to carry its own icon. Windows games install through Wine into the same tree, with the installer defaulting to c:\game inside the prefix. Do not rename that inner folder; the Wine workaround depends on it.

Where Minigalaxy stores this, by platform

Linux
~/GOG Games

One subfolder per installed game. Change it in Preferences or by editing the config file; the replacement must exist and be writable. Enable keep-installers to stash setup files in an installer subfolder.

Linux
~/.config/minigalaxy/config.json

Install directory choice and language live here. Delete it (or run minigalaxy --reset) to restore defaults when preferences stop sticking.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change the install directory?

Change it in Preferences, or edit the config file at ~/.config/minigalaxy directly (minigalaxy --reset restores defaults). The target folder must already exist and be writable, or the change silently reverts.

A big download keeps restarting. Where are the temp files?

Check ~/.cache/minigalaxy/download first. Interrupted downloads restart from scratch when that cache is cleared, so large games on flaky connections deserve patience rather than cache-clearing.
