Where Does NanoBoyAdvance Store Config and Saves?

Where NanoBoyAdvance keeps config.toml, BIOS path and save folder.

Last updated

NanoBoyAdvance keeps a TOML config with BIOS path, save folder, filters and audio options. On Linux it reads $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/NanoBoyAdvance/config.toml, which lands under ~/.config by default. Windows builds use the equivalent AppData path.

Saves go to the configured save folder rather than next to ROMs. Back up config.toml plus the save folder together when migrating, since one without the other restores only half the setup.

Where NanoBoyAdvance stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/NanoBoyAdvance/config.toml

Holds config.toml with BIOS path and save folder. Override the base with XDG_CONFIG_HOME. Point save_folder at synced storage for multi machine play. Edit while the emulator is closed.

Windows
%APPDATA%\NanoBoyAdvance\config.toml

Same config.toml layout under Roaming AppData. Saves follow the save_folder value inside it. Keep BIOS dumps in a stable path to avoid reassigning after moves.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sync NanoBoyAdvance saves across machines?

Set it in the UI save options or point save_folder at the synced directory in config.toml. Newer builds support a custom save folder, which older ones lacked.

Where does NanoBoyAdvance expect the GBA BIOS?

Assign the BIOS file on first ROM load and store gba_bios.bin somewhere stable. The path records in config.toml, so moving the BIOS later means reassigning it or editing the file.
