Where Does No$GBA Store Saves and Settings?

No$GBA keeps saves in a BATTERY folder and all settings in NO$GBA.INI, both beside the emulator executable.

Last updated

No$GBA stores everything next to its own executable, with no installer step and no AppData. The BATTERY folder holds cartridge saves (.sav files named after their ROMs). The NO$GBA.INI file holds every option, from video filters to the save format.

Two behaviors surprise newcomers. Saves only flush to disk when the emulator closes, so killing the process loses the session. And the save format setting changes file compatibility: compressed is No$GBA-only, while raw transfers cleanly to flashcarts and other emulators.

Where No$GBA stores this, by platform

Windows
[No$GBA-Folder]\BATTERY

One .sav per game, named after the ROM. Files appear here only after a clean emulator exit, since No$GBA flushes saves on close rather than continuously.

Windows
[No$GBA-Folder]\NO$GBA.INI

Every emulator option in plain text. The SAV/SNA File Format line decides save compatibility; snapshots land in the SLOT folder beside it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move a save to another emulator?

Set SAV/SNA File Format to Uncompressed (or Raw for transfers) in NO$GBA.INI. Compressed saves carry a No$GBA header that other emulators cannot read, which is the classic transfer failure.

Settings got mangled. How do I reset everything?

Delete NO$GBA.INI and relaunch. A fresh default generates on startup, which clears key-bind, path, and save-type breakage at the cost of reconfiguring options.
