Where Are Neon Abyss Save Files Located?

Neon Abyss saves inside its own install folder, with settings in the registry instead of a config file.

Last updated

Neon Abyss keeps saves in a SavesDir folder inside its own installation directory, not in Documents or AppData. That old-school choice has one sharp edge: reinstalls and Steam folder moves take your progress with them unless Steam Cloud has a copy.

Settings live separately in the Windows registry under the Veewo name, in two possible keys. If your options reset but progress survives, the registry side is the half that broke. Back up SavesDir for runs and export the registry keys for settings.

Where Neon Abyss stores this, by platform

Windows
<SteamLibrary>\steamapps\common\Neon Abyss\SavesDir

Lives next to the game executable (default under steamapps/common). Copy it before reinstalling or moving the Steam library. VirtualStore redirection applies on protected paths.

Windows
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Veewo\Neon Abyss

Settings and options, not progress. Both the Neon Abyss and NeonAbyss keys can exist; back up both before registry edits.

Linux
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/788100/pfx/

Proton prefix for the Windows build (AppID 788100). The install-folder SavesDir appears under the prefix's steamapps path.

Frequently asked questions

Do I lose progress if I reinstall the game?

Reinstalling wipes it. Back up the folder first, or rely on Steam Cloud, which syncs the same files. Verifying game files does not touch saves.

My saves are not in the game folder. Where did they go?

Running from Program Files without admin rights redirects writes to LocalAppData VirtualStore. Install outside protected folders or run elevated to keep saves where you expect.
