Where Are Nioh 2 Save Files Located?

Nioh 2 writes saves to a KoeiTecmo folder under Documents, where cloud sync tools are the usual cause of write errors.

Last updated

Team Ninja follows the publisher pattern shared across Koei Tecmo PC ports. Saves land in Documents under KoeiTecmo, in a NIOH2 folder with a Savedata directory inside.

The folder's enemy is synchronization. Cloud backup tools locking files mid write produce the infamous error 30 loop, and support threads repeat the same fix: take the save folder out of sync scope. Permissions run second, especially on migrated Windows profiles where ownership did not follow.

Where Nioh 2 stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\KoeiTecmo\NIOH2\Savedata

Character and system saves share the Savedata folder. Keep it out of OneDrive and cloud sync scope to avoid write locks mid save.

Frequently asked questions

What causes save error code 30?

Exclude the NIOH2 folder from OneDrive, Drive, or Dropbox sync. The game writes on shrine visits and level transitions, and a sync lock at that moment aborts the write with error 30. Local only folders never trigger it.

The game cannot write saves at all. What else?

Check that authenticated users hold write permission on the Savedata folder. New machines and migrated profiles commonly arrive read only, and the game reports it as a save failure rather than a permission problem.
